A Company Built on Email
The year was 2003 and a new company called InKnowVision was being formed by Randy Fox, Scott Hamilton and Kim Hamilton. Their goal was to create a service for high net worth clients that would be delivered through attorneys, insurance professionals, financial planners and CPAs all across the country.
The problem was that no one knew about their service and they had no marketing budget.
What they did have was a small list of email addresses for colleagues that they had come to know over the years.
They began to send out a newsletter to each of these people with an educational message.
Incredibly, they received calls in the first week. One from a lawyer in Maine and one from a financial planner in New Jersey.
Both the attorney and the financial planner had received the email and both had cases where they thought InKnowVision could help.
From that point on, they wrote about the cases that they were involved with as a way of educating their audience on how best to work with high net worth clients. Their goal was always to teach so that they would always be providing value and motivating the readers to want to work in the higher net worth marketplace.
Fast forward to 2008.
InKnowVision had grown from 2 people to 11 people and from 9 cases in the first year of business to almost 90 cases consistently every year.
Revenue far exceeded expectations. Even though the company had hired commissioned sales people, they still relied on email newsletters to generate leads.
That year, InKnowVision was approached by a company who had technology that allowed InKnowVision to track precisely the impact of their email newsletters.
The technology gave the company a window into the offices of those reading the newsletters. It also allowed people to show their interest by clicking on interactive links in the newsletter.

It was like being in front of a live audience where people can actually raise their hands to say,
"I am interested".
This allowed InKnowVision readers to express interest on their own time. When it was convenient for them.
The technology also allowed InKnowVision to drill way down on the "ROI" concept. They were able to identify which newsletter subjects generated the most interest in terms of leads that converted to paying business.
That kind of analysis continues at InKnowVision today. Each campaign designed to fill the needs of the reader in a way that causes business to bubble to the top.
Of course the company has adopted additional edu-marketing programs since starting out (monthly web casts, live meetings known as the InKnowVision Institute) but the core driver for all of these programs is still the email newsletter, sent out every 7-14 days, with articles of interest to all clients, prospects and referral sources of the business and with tools incorporated to allow continued analysis of the effectiveness of each and every article.
